Grandma Grace’s Sugar Cookies
(Mark’s grandmother)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 sticks of butter
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 ¼ cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
Mix the white sugar and powdered sugar together. Soften the butter and add to the sugars. Next add the oil and beat. Add the eggs to the mixture. Next add the vanilla.
Mix the remaining dry ingredients and gradually add to the sugar and butter mixture. Beat until well mixed.
Roll the cookie dough in balls and dip in white sugar. Press down with a masher or a fork Bake at 375° on an oiled cookie sheet until the cookie edges turn lightly brown (about 7-8 minutes).
Allow the cookies to completely cool on a rack before icing. Cream cheese icing is great on these cookies.
These cookies cannot be rolled. They must be put in balls with the sugar.
Makes approximately 3-4 dozen.
